Hints on securely buying a used car
Buying a used car is a very risky process. There are often a lot of money involved
and it is easy to buy the wrong car and waste that money.
However, there are some things that if taken into consideration might help to reduce
the risk involved in buying a used car.
One of the most important things to take into consideration is who is the seller.
Remember that if you are buying from a private individual, it will be much harder
to obtain compensation in court, if you are not happy with the car for any reason.
If fact, when buying a used car from a car dealer, as consumer, you are protected
by the local law. This means that if you are not happy with the car, the dealer
is obliged to address the issues found in the vehicle.
Moreover, remember that if you find an issue with the vehicle that you believe makes
the driving dangerous, then it will be easier to find compensation in court,
even if buying from an individual.
Also, remember that if you are buying from a friend of yours or a parent, the situation
will be hard to handle in case you are not happy with the vehicle.
Another thing to take into consideration is having the vehicle to go through an
inspection at your trusted mechanic, unless you are an expert yourself! If the current
owner genuinely believes that the car is okay, then he will be happy to have his
car go through an inspection.
A great practice is to first identify exactly what model we are interested in, and
then start viewing used cars only of that model. In this way, after a few viewings
we will be able to start distinguishing a good used car from a bad used car. Every
time you go for a viewing ask for a test drive, so that you get familiar with the
car and you can easily spot mechanical issues when going for the next test drive.
And finally, always remember to ask rigorous questions about the car when having
a viewing. See our top list of questions
to ask when buying a used car.
Hope this will help you getting a great deal!
Until next time,
